COLUMBUS–Four Chagrin Valley Conference wrestlers earned All-Ohio honors in the Division III state wrestling championships on Friday.
Hawken’s Jackson Reineke, Cuyahoga Heights’ Nolan Frye and Wickliffe’s Doug Byrne could place as high as third with a pair of wins on Saturday and Hawken’s Patrick Reineke will wrestle for seventh place.
Jackson Reineke, a junior, advanced to the 120-pound semifinals with 5-2 and 8-7 decisions then ran into two-time state finalist Oscar Sanches of Genoa, the 2017106-pound state champion and the 113-pound state runner-up last winter. Reineke will wrestle Pemberville Eastwood’s Brandon Hahn in the consolation semifinals on Saturday.
Frye, a 106-pound freshman, dropped his opening bout of the tournament, 2-0, then reeled off three straight wins to reach the consolation semifinals. He defeated Hawken freshman Patrick Reineke in the consolation quarterfinals, 3-2.
Patrick Reineke will wrestle Legacy Christian Academy’s Matt Ellis for seventh place at 106.
Byrne, a 182-pound senior, opened the tournament with a 3-minute pin then fell in the quarterfinals to Bluffton’s Deandre Nassar, 4-3. He advanced to the consolation semifinals with back-to-back pins. He’ll wrestle Rootstown’s Chris Langguth in a rematch of the Garfield Heights District championship bout won by Langguth, 7-5.
