Geneva, three individuals advance to districts

Sectional golf tournaments continued on Monday with one Chagrin Valley Conference team and several individuals earning a berth into next week’s district tournament round.

Geneva shot a 327 as a team to finish fourth in the Division I Quail Hollow Sectional. The top four teams advanced to the district tournament.

Ayden Richmond led the Eagles with a 76, good for ninth place overall. Kole Opalko shot an 82, Hunter Metz carded an 84, and Connor Anderson closed out the team scoring with an 85. Max Booth also competed and finished the round with a 112.

Lakeside, West Geauga, and Harvey also competed at the Quail Hollow Sectional. The Dragons finished 13th with 405 strokes, West Geauga was 15th with 440, and Harvey shot a 500 to place 16th.

Chagrin Falls narrowly missed advancing as a team out of the Division I Windmill Lakes sectional.

The Tigers shot a 318, just two strokes behind fourth-place Stow-Munroe Falls. Only the top four teams advanced to the district tournament.

Sven Nielsen did qualify as an individual for the Tigers. He shot a 76 to tie for fifth place and then earned his district berth by winning a game of rock, paper, scissors to break the tie.

Chagrin Falls also advanced a pair of golfers in the Division I girls’ sectional tournament at Old Avalon.

While the Tigers placed fifth as a team—with only the top four teams advancing to the district tournament—Cristina Joseph and Ali Holtz placed 11th and 14th, respectively, to finish as one of the top four individuals not on a qualifying team. Joseph shot an 85 while Holtz carded an 87.

Geneva placed 14th with 537 strokes. Lakeside also competed at the sectional but did not score as a team.
