Grand Valley, Kirtland earn meet wins

KIRTLAND—Grand Valley and Kirtland pulled out wins at the Kirtland two-mile tri-meet at Chapin Forest on Wednesday.

The Mustangs claimed a 25-31 win over the Hornets in the boys’ race but Kirtland outran Cardinal in the girls’ competition, 19-41.

Grand Valley’s David Steimle won the boys’ race in 11:41, just 10 seconds ahead of Kirtland’s Ian Borthwick, who placed second. Kirtland’s Brigham Weight (12:17) and Grand Valley’s Ben Cozad (12:43) and Ethan Hughes (12:59) rounded out the top five.

Kirtland freshman Sylvia Vosicky continued to impress in her first season as she won the girls’ race in 13:21. Cardinal’s Lily Ayer finished second in 14:06. Kirtland’s Delaney Kuczkowski (14:29), Ainsley Borthwick (14:30), and Stephanie Drazetic (14:31) also finished among the top five.

Orange and Berkshire also competed in the middle school race.
