Hawken punches ticket to state tournament

Hawken finished second at the Division II Windmill Lakes District Tournament on Tuesday and earned a berth in next week’s state tournament in Columbus.

The Hawks finished with 319 strokes, just one behind district champion Triway, who finished with 318.

Cooper Bryan led the Hawks with a 75, Quinn Petersen carded an 80, and Peyton O’Keefe and Jack Zeid rounded out the scoring with duplicate 82s. Vince Vomberger also competed for the Hawks and finished the tournament with an 83.

Orange’s Jack Stover can hitch a ride down to Columbus with the Hawks as he qualified for the state tournament as an individual.

Stover shot a 75 to tie for second place overall. The top three individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to state.

The Lions placed sixth as a team.

Beachwood’s Matt Blumenthal and Edgewood’s Mason Feather both shot 79 to tie for 12th place. Beachwood’s James O’Neill and Grand Valley’s Hagan Hejduk both shot 80 to tie for 15th place.
