BURTON–Lutheran West made the most of its first appearance in the Chagrin Valley Conference Cross Country Championships.
The Longhorns edged two-time defending champion Berkshire by three points to win the team title.
Lutheran West finished with 69 points while the Badgers finished second with 72. Kirtland rounded out the top three with 84 points.
Sophomore Sam Silva paced the Longhorns with a third-place finish in 18:27. He earned first-team all-conference honors. Lutheran West also had two second-team honorees in Mike Montie (9th, 18:55) and Elijah Van Farowe (13th, 19:19).
Independence junior Collin Patton repeated as the Valley Division’s individual champion. He finished the race in 17:58.
Other first-team all-league performers included Grand Valley’s David Steimle (2nd, 18:12), Trinity’s Stephen Gudz (3rd, 18:24) and Clifford Kelley (7th, 18:39), Kirtland’s John Sayle (5th, 18:29) and Berkshire’s Robert O’Conke (6th, 18:33) and Ethan Bennington (8th, 18:50).
Runners who finished between ninth and 16th earned second-team all-league honors. That group included Wickliffe’s Robert King (11th, 19:08) and Hayden Smith (12th, 19:10), Kirtland’s Ian McGreal (14th, 19:24), Berkshire’s Caleb Klem (19:37) and Cuyahoga Heights’ Devon Patel (16th, 19:38).
