Orange rallies for win over Bedford

Orange got off to a slow start against visiting Bedford on Saturday but the Lions rallied from a first set loss to beat the Bearcats, 3-1.

The Lions won the match 20-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19.

“Our team started slowly in the first set today but certainly brought so much energy in the next three sets to bring home the win,” said Orange coach Jen Gold. “We noticed so many players diving for the ball today, which showed so much heart and effort. We have been working on aggressive serves in practice which paid off today with our 13 ace serves.”

With the match tied at 1-1, senior Katie Hoover began the third set with nine straight service points and the Lions rode that momentum to the four-set win. Hoover, who collected four aces in the match, closed the set with five straight service points.

Senior Maria Burdjalov finished with 20 kills and senior Haley Shedden recorded a team-high 30 assists. Senior Morgan Chernikoff finished with six digs and senior Carly Stark pitched in with five digs and three aces.

“We loved the communication and heart that our girls played with today,” Gold said. “I am so proud of their teamwork and positive attitudes.”
