GATES MILLS–Vince Pasquale hit for the cycle and Stephen Javorek struck out six in five innings to lead West Geauga to an 8-7 win over Hawken on Monday.
The Wolverines led 2-0 before giving up two runs in the fourth and having to rally for a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.
“We were planning on playing just good, hard aggressive defense and putting the bat on the ball,” West Geauga coach Guy McIntyre said. “It’s pretty simple. It’s basic baseball.”
Javorek also had three hits and Jimmy Rogant closed out the game for the Wolverines.
Devin Anthony led Hawken with three hits, including a double, and Nick Bollinger finished with two hits and two runs batted in.
“Our game plan fell apart pretty quickly because we made a few errors early on and we let them get out to a lead but my kids battled back,” Hawken coach Aaron Brandt said. “We’ve got a really young team–we’ve got one senior that is playing the majority of the time and the rest of them are all young guys–most of them have never been on the varsity level and sometimes it shows, but they’re learning.”
