Pirates claim CVC Chagrin title

With five individual champions, Perry ended Geneva’s reign at the Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division Wrestling Championships.

The Pirates won the team title with 198 ½ points snapping Geneva’s two-year run at the top of the conference.

Zach Bellissimo (106), Brock Christian (120), Ryan Berdysz (132), Colin Koenig (145), and Tommy Jackson (220) all won titles for the Pirates. Riley Rowan (113), Ethan Hicks (152), Ryan Brubaker (160), and Jimmy Thomas (170) all finished second and Dominic Ciolli (126), Calvin Rowan (138), and A.J. Kifus (285) placed third. Jory Panza (182) finished fourth for the Pirates.

Orange finished with the second-most number of individual champions as Te’Andre Allen (126), Josh Decipeda (182), and Grant Bell (195) each stood atop the podium in their respective weight classes.

Other champions included Hawken’s Patrick Reineke (113), Lakeside’s Ethan Wannett (138), Chagrin Falls’ Sam Partain (152), Geneva’s Caleb Selman (160), Harvey’s Jayden Jackson (170) and West Geauga’s Lucas Sadler (285).

Steve Hare is the Chagrin Valley Conference's Sports Information Director. He also created and publishes, an online publication dedicated to providing hyperlocal coverage to area high school athletic programs. Hare began covering high school sports for the Lake County News Herald in 1997. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
