Clare Andrykovitch and Annabella Stoehr both scored two goals in Wickliffe’s season-opening 8-1 win over visiting Akron North on Tuesday.
Eliza Wills, Ava Gabriel, Kellsie Glosser, and Maddie Kita also found the back of the net for the Blue Devils.
“The team put together a quality 80 minutes,” said Wickliffe coach Steve Gribovicz. “It was nice to see the results of the work that the team has been training all summer for come together on the field tonight. This win is valuable leading up to Thursday’s game against Berkshire. We were able to use and gain confidence in some tactics that we haven’t been able to fully engage in without having 11 vs 11 in practice.”
Wickliffe led 6-0 at halftime.
Leah Skufca and Wills both assisted on a pair of goals and Lauren Smith recorded one assist in the win.
“There were numerous opportunities throughout the game, but a key connection of consistency was our midfield playing off of each other and pushing the tempo throughout the game,” Gribovicz said of the team’s offensive success. “Our younger players were able to get valuable experience on the field that will help their growth moving along this season. Our back line was able to experience different situations throughout the game to build on for future games.”
Wickliffe hosts Berkshire on Thursday.
