Wolverines win at Perry in key CVC showdown

PERRY—With the Chagrin Valley Conference’s expansion, Perry and West Geauga find themselves in different divisions this winter but Wednesday’s crossover game still had plenty at stake.

The visiting Wolverines pulled out a 42-38 win over the Pirates and in the process added a signature win heading into the postseason draw later this season. West Geauga and Perry both were assigned to the Division II district at Lakeside and are among the teams expected to compete for the district title.

Trailing 38-35, Perry’s Madyson Hacking drained a 3-pointer to tie the game but Athena Hocevar responded with a three of her own and Alexa Hocevar added a free throw to close out the scoring.

West Geauga, who improved to 13-2 overall and 8-0 in Chagrin Valley Conference play, held Perry scoreless for nearly the final two minutes of the game.

Alex Hocevar led West Geauga with 14 points and Nikki Ehrbar finished with 13.

Elle Infalvi led the Pirates with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Hacking finished with 13. The Pirates dropped to 10-4, 5-1.

Now that Perry has moved to the CVC Lake Division, the two teams will play just once this season but the postseason could provide an opportunity for a rematch.
